Campus Maps Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy governs our policies and practices with respect to personally identifiable information and other data that is collected by Campus Maps ("we", "us", "our") in connection with our websites, apps, products, emails, notifications, ads, and services (together, the "Service(s)").
What kinds of information we collect

Depending on which Services are used, we collect different kinds of information.

Things you do and information you provide: We collect content and information you provide when you use our Services, which includes but is not limited to information provided during account creation, user generated content, and access and use of our Services. This can include information in or about the content you provide, such as image metadata. We also collect information about how you use our Services, including frequency and duration of usage and the content engaged with. For example, you may send information about yourself by emailing our support for requesting an update at your school, thus providing your email address and name.

Information about payments: If you make a purchase using our Services, we collect information about the purchase and transaction such as billing address and authentication information, however we do not store credit card numbers on our servers. On mobile devices we use the built-in App Stores to process payment information, and in all other circumstances we use Stripe to manage and process payment information.

Information from websites and apps that use our Services: We may collect information when you visit or use third-party websites, apps, or services that use, display, serve, or integrate our Services such as embeddable widgets.

Information from third-party partners: We may receive information about you and your activities on and off the Services from third-party providers such as from a partner when we jointly offer services, from third-party widget use, or from an advertiser about your experiences or interactions with them.

Information from Log Data: We automatically receive Log Data including but not limited to IP address, user-agent string, locale, geo-location, language settings, resolution, browser type, operating system, referral URLs, search terms, carrier device, device information, and cookie information when you view or interact with the Services. We may retain Log Data for as long as it provides value and use Log Data to improve the services, make inferences, customize the content shown to you such as default language, ads, or serve mobile-optimized content.

How we use the information

Provide, improve, and develop our Services: We are able to deliver our Services, personalize your experience, provide better suggestions for you, improve popular features or areas of Services, and develop future Services by processing the data collected to better understand how you use and interact with our Services.

Tailoring Services: When you provide location information, we may use it to tailor our Services for you and others, including to generate and improve routing, identify popular areas, perform and publish reports, suggest defaults such as the nearest school, provide and update directions, and further customize information displayed to you including advertising.

Product improvement: We may conduct surveys, perform and publish research, test features in development, and analyze the information we have to evaluate and improve our Services, develop new products and features, conduct audits, and troubleshoot activities.

Communication: We may use the information collected to send you marketing communications, communicate with you about our and our partner's Services, provide updates on policies and terms, and to respond to you when you contact us.

Show and measure ads and Services: We may use the information collected to improve our advertising and measurement systems so we can show you relevant ads on and off our Services and measure the effectiveness and reach of ads and Services.

We may use cookies and similar technologies to provide and support our Services and each of the uses outlined and described in this section of our policy. Cookies are small pieces of text used to store information on web browsers. Cookies are used to store and receive identifiers and other information on computers, phones, and other devices. Other technologies, including data we store on your web browser or device, identifiers associated with your device, and other software, are used for similar purposes. In this policy, we refer to all of these technologies as “cookies.”

How we share the information

Public content: The information that you contribute through the Service is intended for public consumption. For example, if you post a comment on a building, all viewers of that building will be able to see your comment, the date, username, and any other public information you have chosen to share.

Promote safety and security: We share information collected to promote safety and security by providing information upon request to law enforcement or to schools in case of an emergency such as during a fire or active gunman situation.

Sharing within our companies: We may share information collected within the family of companies that are part of Campus Maps.

Sharing with third parties: We may share information collected with vendors, service providers, and partners. We transfer information to vendors, service providers, and other partners who support and facilitate our Services, such as providing technical infrastructure services, analyzing how our Services are used, measuring the effectiveness of ads and services, providing customer service, facilitating payments, or conducting academic research and surveys. These third parties may have privacy policies and terms of their own. We may also share information collected with advertising, measurement, and analytics services. We may provide these partners with information about the effectiveness and reach of their advertising.

Sharing with Google: Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to your website. Google's use of the DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and/or other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of the use of the DoubleClick cookie for interest-based advertising by visiting Ads Settings.

Third party links: Services may contain links to third parties. These parties have their own privacy policies, and it is suggested that you read them. Our privacy policy was developed independently of these third parties, and the privacy policies may differ.

New owner: If ownership or control of all or part of our Services or their assets changes, we may transfer your information to the new owner.

How we protect the information

We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect information submitted to us. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Your choices

You may choose not to use the Services and are explicitly prohibited from using the Services if you do not consent to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use Policy.

Children under 13

The Services are designed for college-age students and are not designed, targeted, or intended for individuals under the age of 13. Individuals under the age of 13 may not use or visit the Services.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679

Anyone who is a resident of the European Union or otherwise subject to the GDPR is ineligible to use the Services and is in breach of our Terms of Use.
